Short answer

As of November 2026, four of the chatbots compared here ship ready-made Stripe actions that can cancel a subscription. Intercom Fin goes furthest, with plan changes and refunds, from $29 a seat plus $0.99 per outcome. Chatbase changes or cancels plans from $150 a month, and DocsBot refunds within rules you set from $149. PepoChat finds the customer, checks the subscription and cancels at period end on every plan, including Free. Help Scout shows Stripe only to human agents.

"Which plan am I on?", "When do you charge me next?" and "Cancel my subscription" arrive in every SaaS support inbox, and the answers all live in Stripe. Many support tools "integrate with Stripe". What matters is who sees the data: the AI agent talking to your customer, or only the person reading the ticket later.

This comparison is for founders and support leads at subscription businesses on Stripe. It sorts nine tools by what their AI can do in Stripe, what still needs a person or a developer, and what each costs.

PepoChat is our product; we include it where it fits and say where other tools are the better choice. Facts below were checked on vendor pages on 4 November 2026.

Which AI chatbots integrate with Stripe?

Five tools give their AI agent prebuilt Stripe access, three let you build it, and one shows Stripe to human agents only.

A Stripe integration for a chatbot, in this post, means the AI itself can read or change Stripe data during the conversation. A panel only your team sees is useful, but it does not answer a customer at 2 a.m.

How we compared these tools

We ranked by how much the AI can safely do in Stripe, then by cost for a small team. Six criteria decided the order:

  1. Who sees the data. An AI lookup answers the customer; a sidebar app only helps your agent.
  2. Lookups. Customer, subscription status and renewal date at minimum.
  3. Write actions. Cancel, pause or change plan, and whether cancellation can wait until period end.
  4. Refunds. Whether the tool offers them, and how easy they are to leave off.
  5. Identity checks. Enforced by the software, or only requested in the prompt.
  6. Plan required. The cheapest plan that includes the Stripe features.

We read each vendor's pricing page, help center and integration docs on 4 November 2026 and compared them on the criteria above. We left out Gorgias, whose pages list no Stripe app, and Voiceflow, which has no native Stripe tool; both need an action you build. Chatwoot's Captain (read-only Stripe tools behind an email code, on its Business plan), CustomGPT (Stripe's MCP connector) and Freshdesk Omni (AI agents with Stripe workflows) can reach Stripe too; we did not rank them.

Billing questions land on the founder's desk first. The useful question about any Stripe integration is whether the AI can answer them, or only you.

1. Intercom Fin: best for full billing self-service on Stripe

Intercom Fin is the AI agent inside Intercom's helpdesk, and with Intercom's Stripe app and its Stripe Data connector templates it can look up, change and refund Stripe billing inside the conversation. Intercom Fin is the best fit for a SaaS team already on Intercom that wants the AI to finish billing requests end to end.

Pricing: Essential is $29 a seat a month billed annually ($39 monthly), Advanced $85 and Expert $132. Fin costs $0.99 per outcome, Intercom's billing unit: a conversation Fin resolves or a Procedure it completes, charged at most once per conversation. The Stripe app is available on all three plans. There is a 14-day trial and no free plan.

Strengths: Intercom's Data connector templates cover the widest set here: customer search by email, subscriptions, next-invoice and plan-change previews, invoices, charges and refund status. Write templates change the plan, pause or resume payments, apply a retention coupon, retry an invoice, cancel at period end or immediately, and refund in full or in part. Most write templates make Fin explain the change and wait for a yes, and Fin hands over when it cannot match a single account. Your team also sees subscriptions and the three most recent payments in the inbox.

Limits: Fin's Stripe connector page says it is "Currently available for US-hosted Intercom workspaces only" and needs JWT or email one-time-code authentication in production. You pay for helpdesk seats as well as outcomes. Refund and immediate-cancel templates exist, so leaving them off is your job.

Verdict: The most capable Stripe agent on this list, if you are on Intercom and hosted in the US.

2. Chatbase: best standalone AI agent with Stripe plan changes

Chatbase is an AI agent builder whose native Stripe Actions let the agent show a customer's subscription and invoices, change or cancel the plan and update billing details. Chatbase is the best fit for a SaaS team that wants Stripe self-service in a website chat without moving its helpdesk.

Pricing: No free plan. Stripe is not on Hobby ($40 a month); it starts on Basic at $150 a month, or $120 billed yearly, with 4,000 message credits. Each AI model request costs 1 to 5 credits depending on the model, and a request that triggers an Action makes a second model call. Extra credits are $40 per 1,000.

Strengths: Chatbase's Stripe Actions are get subscription information, get invoice history, manage subscriptions ("Change plans, upgrade, downgrade, add payment methods, and cancel") and change billing information. Identity verification is a prerequisite, and each contact needs a stripe_account field, so the agent acts on the account your system says the visitor owns rather than on an email they typed.

Limits: Stripe Actions work in the Chat Bubble channel only. A developer has to set up identity verification and contact records before anything works. The docs do not say whether cancellation is immediate or at period end, so ask.

Verdict: The deepest Stripe actions outside Intercom, at a $150 floor.

3. DocsBot: best for Stripe refunds inside rules you set

DocsBot is an AI chatbot builder for documentation and support content whose Stripe actions look up invoices and subscription status, send customers to Stripe's billing portal, cancel a subscription and refund the latest payment. DocsBot is the best fit for a software company that wants refunds automated within strict written limits.

Pricing: Stripe billing actions start on Standard at $149 a month, or $124 billed annually, with 15,000 AI credits and 8 actions per bot. A standard chat message costs 1 credit on a 1x model, and actions can cost more. The Free plan has no actions.

Strengths: DocsBot's Stripe actions guide says refunds are checked against a snapshot of the customer's Stripe data, not the chat, with rules such as payments "under $50 and within 14 days", and that "Users cannot bypass these rules." You connect Stripe through a redirect, with no key to paste.

Limits: The guide does not say how the customer is identified or whether cancellation is immediate or at period end, so ask both. DocsBot has no built-in live chat inbox. When credits run out, the bot stops responding.

Verdict: The most controlled refund automation on this list, once you have confirmed how it identifies customers.

4. PepoChat: best free option with Stripe lookups and period-end cancel

PepoChat is an AI support agent for websites with three prebuilt Stripe actions on every plan, including Free: find the customer by billing email, check the subscription, and cancel at the end of the paid period. PepoChat is the best fit for a small SaaS team that wants plan and renewal questions answered without a $150 plan or a per-outcome fee.

Pricing: Free is $0 for 200 AI replies a month. Starter is $39 a month or $390 a year for 2,000 replies and 3 members; Growth is $149 for 10,000. Paid plans bill extra replies at $10 per 1,000, and replies your team types in the team inbox do not count.

Strengths: You paste a Stripe restricted key, tick the actions and test each before switching it on, as the Stripe integration docs show. The agent may read only the plan name, amount, currency, interval, status, renewal date and cancellation flag, never card details. Cancellation sends cancel_at_period_end=true, so the customer keeps what they paid for and a repeated call changes nothing. Anything beyond the three actions goes to the team inbox with the transcript. A custom action can add an invoice lookup against Stripe's API with a key that reads invoices.

Limits: There is no plan change, pause or refund action, and only the most recent subscription is read. Lookups are not gated by verification in code: the agent is told whether the visitor verified, and the action's instructions can make it ask for the 6-digit email code or act only for verified visitors, but nothing blocks a lookup by an email the visitor types. The chat runs in the web widget today, with WhatsApp and Messenger in limited rollout. PepoChat is young, with few public reviews and no compliance certifications.

Verdict: The cheapest way to put real Stripe answers in a chat, for teams that keep plan changes and refunds with people.

5. Crisp: best for read-only Stripe answers in a shared inbox

Crisp is a flat-priced shared inbox whose AI agent, Hugo, can read Stripe billing context and invoices through Crisp's native Stripe integration, while every change stays in Stripe. Crisp is the best fit for a team that wants billing answers, not billing changes, from its AI.

Pricing: Stripe is on Plus only, at $295 a month per workspace with 20 or more seats and $75 of Hugo credits, which Crisp puts at around 1,350 automated conversations. Crisp estimates a Hugo conversation at $0.05 to $0.10.

Strengths: Operators see subscription status and payment history in the conversation, and Hugo can check a subscription, a plan or an invoice. Crisp's integrations have a "Require user identity verification" setting that makes Hugo send a one-time code by email or SMS before a tool runs, which is enforced rather than requested.

Limits: Crisp's Stripe help article says payment modifications and subscription changes happen in Stripe, so Hugo cannot cancel or refund. When credits run out, Hugo stops and chats go to people unless Pay-As-You-Go is on.

Verdict: A solid read-only billing assistant, priced for teams that want the whole Crisp suite.

6. Zendesk: best for large teams that build Stripe action flows

Zendesk is a full helpdesk suite whose AI agents can run action flows, and Zendesk's action builder includes Stripe steps to find a customer, cancel a subscription and look up invoices. Zendesk is the best fit for a larger support team that wants Stripe steps inside procedures it designs.

Pricing: Suite Team is $55 per agent a month billed annually, or $69 monthly, with 5 automated resolutions per agent a month; extra resolutions cost $1.50 on a commitment or $2.00 pay-as-you-go.

Strengths: The Stripe steps in Zendesk's action flow reference create, update, look up and search customers (Stripe search syntax, so an email works), cancel a subscription with an optional "cancel at period end" switch, and create, look up or search invoices. According to About actions in AI agents, action flows can be added to an AI agent's procedures on all Suite plans and don't consume action credits there.

Limits: You assemble each flow yourself. The Stripe step list has no subscription lookup and no refund. Per-resolution pricing rises as the AI succeeds.

Verdict: Strong if you run Zendesk and have someone to build flows; heavy for a three-person team.

7. HubSpot Customer Agent: best when Stripe data already lives in your CRM

HubSpot syncs Stripe customers, invoices and subscriptions into its CRM, and its Customer Agent reaches Stripe only through a Custom API request action you configure. HubSpot is the best fit for a team whose support and billing records already run through Service Hub.

Pricing: The Customer Agent needs a Professional or Enterprise edition: Smart CRM Professional starts at $45 a seat a month billed annually, and Service Hub Professional at $90 plus a required $1,500 onboarding. Each resolved conversation uses 50 HubSpot Credits, or $0.50.

Strengths: The Stripe data app syncs customers both ways to contacts and brings invoices, subscriptions and payments into HubSpot records. HubSpot's customer agent actions support GET or POST requests with API-key authentication, and an action protection level of "Verify email" sends the visitor a link and acts only after they click it.

Limits: There is no prebuilt Stripe action for the agent, so every call and its response instructions are yours to write.

Verdict: Sensible inside an existing HubSpot stack, not as a first Stripe chatbot.

Botpress is a developer agent platform whose official Stripe integration creates payment and subscription links, finds or creates customers and reacts to subscription events. Botpress is the best fit for a developer who wants a bot that sells as well as supports.

Pricing: Free is $0 with 100 conversations. Plus is $150 a month billed annually, or $189 monthly, with 250 conversations and $25 of AI usage; extra packs cost $65 per 100 conversations.

Strengths: The integration is maintained by Botpress and accepts a restricted key. Events such as Subscription Updated, Subscription Deleted and Invoice Payment Failed let a bot react to billing changes.

Limits: No subscription lookup, cancel or refund action is listed, so those need your own code.

Verdict: Good for checkout-style bots; subscription support is a build.

9. Help Scout: best for human agents who handle Stripe billing

Help Scout's Stripe app puts subscriptions, invoices and payments in the conversation sidebar for your team on every plan, including Free, but its AI cannot use Stripe data yet. Help Scout is the best fit for a team that wants people, not the AI, to handle billing.

Pricing: The Free plan covers 5 users and 100 contacts a month. Standard is $25 per user a month billed annually ($30 monthly), Plus $45 and Pro $75. The Envoy AI add-on costs $0.75 per resolution, with a 3-month free trial.

Strengths: Help Scout's Stripe sidebar app shows subscriptions in any status, cancels immediately or at period end, creates subscriptions, shares customer portal links and issues full or partial refunds.

Limits: Help Scout's AI page lists "Apps" connecting Scout to payment processors as coming soon. The app lets every Help Scout user refund from the sidebar regardless of their Stripe permissions, so decide who gets access.

Verdict: The best free Stripe sidebar for humans; not an AI integration yet.

How to let a chatbot touch Stripe safely

Give the AI the smallest key, read before you write, cancel only at period end, keep refunds with people, and check identity in software.

Use a restricted key, tagged for agents where you can. A restricted API key is a Stripe key that can call only the resources you grant, with None, Read or Write per resource. Stripe's restricted key guide says it recommends restricted keys over secret keys "especially when giving a key to an AI agent". Stripe's API keys page adds agent-tagged keys, which work like restricted keys but fall under approval rules that make a reviewer approve high-risk actions such as refunds and payouts.

Read before you write. Start with Customers: Read and Subscriptions: Read and watch the transcripts for a few weeks. Add Subscriptions: Write only when you switch on cancellation.

Cancel at period end, never immediately. Stripe cancels immediately by default, and a cancelled subscription cannot be reactivated. Setting cancel_at_period_end=true lets the customer finish the period they paid for, and setting it back to false undoes it until the period ends.

Keep refunds with people. A refund is a judgement about policy and goodwill, and a duplicate one costs real money. PepoChat, for one, runs actions at least once, so a retried call can repeat. Our guide on whether an AI chatbot can process refunds covers what the bot should do instead.

Check identity in software, not only in the prompt. Chatbase requires identity verification for its Stripe Actions, Intercom's templates expect verified identity and a protected email field, Crisp can send a one-time code before a tool runs, and HubSpot's "Verify email" level acts only after a click. In PepoChat the check is an instruction the agent follows, so trim what a lookup returns or leave cancellation off. Our chatbot identity verification guide compares the methods, and the visitor verification docs list what PepoChat's code unlocks.

The customer asking about their plan is often the one who pays. Matching the chat to the right Stripe customer comes before any answer about their money.

Test every write in Stripe's test mode first, and give each tool its own key so you can revoke it alone. The chatbot permissions guide turns these rules into four tiers.

What does a Stripe-connected AI chatbot cost at 500 and 2,000 conversations?

At 500 conversations a month the six tools with published AI pricing range from $39 to about $559; at 2,000 the per-outcome tools pull far ahead of the flat ones.

Assumptions you can swap for your own: one seat, monthly billing at list prices, three AI replies and one Stripe call per conversation, a 1-credit model where credits apply, half the conversations resolved by the AI, and the cheapest plan that includes the Stripe features. These are estimates from published prices, not quotes.

Prices from each vendor's own pages, checked 4 November 2026. Crisp publishes no Pay-As-You-Go rate, so its 2,000 figure uses Crisp's estimate of $0.05 to $0.10 per Hugo conversation.

Flat allowances barely move between the two volumes, while outcome and resolution pricing grows with every chat the AI closes.

Which one should you choose?

Choose by where your support already lives and how much the AI should change in Stripe.

Before you buy, ask each vendor four things: which Stripe fields reach the AI, whether cancellation can be limited to period end, how identity is checked before a lookup, and what happens when a Stripe call fails.

What to do next

Frequently asked questions

Can a chatbot cancel a Stripe subscription?
Yes. As of November 2026, Intercom Fin, Chatbase, DocsBot and PepoChat have ready-made actions that cancel a Stripe subscription in the chat, and Zendesk lets you build one into an action flow. The safe way is cancel at period end: the customer keeps what they paid for, and the change can be undone until the period ends. An immediate cancellation cannot be reversed.
Can an AI chatbot issue Stripe refunds?
Some can. Intercom's Stripe templates include full and partial refunds, and DocsBot can refund the latest payment, checked against refund rules you write. Most businesses should still keep refunds with people: a refund is a policy judgement, and actions that run at least once can repeat a call. Let the bot collect the reason and invoice, then hand over.
Is it safe to give a chatbot a Stripe API key?
It is reasonably safe with a restricted key that has only the permissions the bot needs, such as Customers: Read and Subscriptions: Read, plus Subscriptions: Write if it may cancel. Never paste a full secret key. Stripe recommends restricted keys especially for AI agents, and agent-tagged keys add approval rules for high-risk actions such as refunds and payouts.
Which Stripe API key should a chatbot use?
A restricted API key, starting with rk_live_ or rk_test_, created for the chatbot alone and named after it. Give it Read on Customers and Subscriptions, Write on Subscriptions only if cancellation is switched on, and None on charges, refunds and payment methods. Test it in a sandbox first, and expire the key if you stop using the tool.
Does Intercom integrate with Stripe?
Yes. Intercom's Stripe app shows teammates a customer's subscriptions and three most recent payments on the Essential, Advanced and Expert plans. With Intercom's Stripe Data connector templates, Fin can also look up invoices, change or pause plans, cancel and refund. Fin's Stripe connector page says it works in US-hosted workspaces only and needs JWT or email one-time-code authentication in production.
How does a chatbot know which Stripe customer it is talking to?
It matches the visitor to a Stripe customer, usually by email. Safer tools prove the email first: Chatbase requires identity verification and a Stripe account on the contact, Crisp can send a one-time code before a tool runs, and HubSpot can require a verification link. PepoChat asks for the billing email; its instructions can request a 6-digit code, but the lookup is not gated.
