Freshdesk Freddy AI vs Zendesk AI Agents vs Zoho Zia: Add-On Costs
Freshdesk bills Freddy AI per session, Zendesk per verified resolution and Zoho Desk by edition. October 2026 prices, unit definitions and five-agent costs.

Short answer
As of October 2026, Freshdesk sells Freddy AI Agent sessions at $49 per 100 after a one-time 500, Zendesk charges $1.50 to $2.00 per verified automated resolution after 5 or 10 included per agent a month, and Zoho Desk publishes no per-answer charge but lists its website Answer Bot on the $40 Enterprise edition. Five agents with 3,000 website chats a month pay about $1,615, $2,488 to $3,225 (half verified), or $200, seats included.
Freshdesk, Zendesk and Zoho Desk each sell an AI agent for customers and an AI assistant for the people working tickets, and each prices them in a different unit. Third-party pricing pages disagree five-fold on the price of a Freddy session and on which Zoho edition includes the Answer Bot, so every number here comes from the vendors' own pricing pages and help centers.
This guide is for support leads at 20 to 200-person companies who run one of these helpdesks, or are choosing one, and need to budget the AI line. It quotes each vendor's unit and plan gates, works three months for a five-agent team, and ends with questions for your account rep.
All prices were read on the vendors' websites on 22 October 2026. PepoChat is our product; its behaviour below was checked in its code and documentation the same day, and it appears as an agent in front of a helpdesk, not a replacement.
How do Freddy AI, Zendesk AI agents and Zoho Zia charge?
Freddy AI, Zendesk AI agents and Zoho Zia charge in three different units as of October 2026: Freshdesk counts AI agent sessions, Zendesk counts verified automated resolutions, and Zoho Desk charges through the edition price, with tokens billed only when Zia Agents pass a free monthly allowance. A billing unit is the event a vendor counts to build the AI line of your invoice.
| AI add-on | Unit billed | What counts as one | Price | Included | Plan needed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Freshdesk Freddy AI Agent | Session | One person's chat within 24 hours of its start, or emails within 72 hours of the first | $49 per 100 sessions ($0.49 each) | 500 once per account on Growth, Pro and Enterprise | Chat agent: Freshdesk Omni, from $29 an agent |
| Freshdesk Freddy AI Copilot | Agent licence | Each agent you assign | $29 an agent a month | None | Pro or Enterprise |
| Zendesk AI agents | Automated resolution | A verified resolution: no human, no further help asked, AI check passed | $1.50 committed, $2.00 pay-as-you-go | 5 per agent a month on Team plans, 10 on Suite Professional | Every plan; chat needs Suite, from $55 an agent |
| Zendesk Copilot | Agent seat | Every agent seat in the account | $50 an agent a month | 5 free uses per agent a month on Professional | Professional or higher |
| Zoho Desk Answer Bot | User seat | No per-answer unit published | In the edition price | Not metered on Zoho's pages | Standard, $14 a user; in the ASAP widget, Enterprise, $40 |
| Zoho Desk Zia Agents | Token | Tokens on Zoho-hosted models | $1 per million past the allowance ($3 on the pro tier) | 30 million tokens a month (20 million on the pro tier) | Every edition |
Prices from each vendor's pricing page and help center, checked 22 October 2026. Seat prices are per agent or user a month on annual billing, in US dollars.
A session is charged whether the AI solved the problem or not, a verified resolution only when Zendesk's own check agrees it did, and an edition seat costs the same at ten questions or ten thousand. The AI customer support pricing index sorts 30 tools by the same distinction, and the Tidio Lyro, Intercom Fin and Zendesk comparison shows the units pulling apart at 500 and 2,000 conversations.
How much does Freshdesk Freddy AI cost?
Freshdesk's Freddy AI Agent costs $49 per pack of 100 sessions as of October 2026, which is $0.49 a session, after a one-time grant of 500 sessions on the Growth, Pro and Enterprise plans. Freddy AI Copilot, the assistant for human agents, costs $29 per agent a month on annual billing, on Pro and Enterprise only.
Freshdesk costs $19, $55 and $89 per agent a month on annual billing for Growth, Pro and Enterprise, with an Email AI Agent. Freshdesk Omni costs $29, $79 and $119, and only Omni includes the Chat AI Agent for a website widget and messaging apps, according to Freshworks' help article on Freddy AI add-ons. Neither pricing page shows monthly seat prices.
Copilot can be bought for any number of agents, and the help center says one licence opens Freddy AI Insights to the account, which the pricing page lists on Enterprise. Both pricing pages also meter connector app tasks ($80 per 5,000) and MCP actions ($15 per 1,000).
What is a Freddy AI session?
A Freddy AI session is all of one person's interactions with the AI agent inside a time window: 24 hours from the start of a chat, or 72 hours from the customer's first email, however many replies the AI sends. The Freshdesk Omni pricing page puts the chat rule as "all interactions between the end-user and AI Agent within 24 hours from session initiation are counted as one session."
A session counts whether or not the AI solved anything: two chats in one afternoon are one session, and a return visit two days later is a second.
Six rules in the session FAQ that change the bill
Freshworks' Freddy AI Agent session FAQ, modified on 12 August 2026, sets rules no pricing page shows:
- The 500 free sessions are a one-time offer for new customers; the Free plan gets none.
- Buying a session pack removes the complimentary sessions you have left.
- Previewing an AI agent or chatbot while you build it consumes sessions.
- Packs last one billing cycle: unused sessions expire, packs are not prorated, and your pack count renews unless you reduce it first.
- When sessions run out, the AI agent stops and chats go to live agents, but a self-service widget stops working and is not handed over.
- Auto-recharge, for online billing only, adds one pack when the balance reaches 50 sessions.
Rules 2 and 3 shape the first month: build and test on the free 500, and buy a pack only when they are nearly gone.
Why do sources quote $0.10 and $0.49 for a Freddy session?
Sources disagree because Freshworks changed the price: the session FAQ dates $49 per 100 to first-time purchases from 13 November 2025, and an archived copy of the Freshdesk pricing page from 15 February 2025 listed "$100 per 1,000 sessions", or $0.10 each. That page also counted "every email response" as a session and gave the free 500 to Pro and Enterprise only.
Customers who signed up before the cut-off keep their provisions, the FAQ adds, including legacy contracts with 2,000, 3,000 or 5,000 sessions a month. Posts quoting $0.10 or no free sessions on Growth describe those older terms; a monthly 500 appears on neither page, since both limit the free sessions to once per account.
How much do Zendesk AI agents cost per resolution?
Zendesk AI agents cost $1.50 per automated resolution on a committed volume or $2.00 pay-as-you-go as of October 2026, after an allowance of 5 resolutions per agent a month on Support Team and Suite Team and 10 on Suite Professional, up to 10,000 a year.
Seats on the Zendesk pricing page cost $19 for Support Team, $55 for Suite Team and $115 for Suite Professional per agent a month on annual billing, or $25, $69 and $149 monthly. Support Team has no messaging or live chat, so a website chat agent starts at Suite Team.
An automated resolution is a customer request the AI agent resolved without escalation to a human agent. Since 18 May 2026, Zendesk's automated resolution tiers sort each AI conversation three ways. An assisted escalation, finished by a person, and a contained resolution, which an LLM check could not confirm, do not count against your allowance. A verified resolution, where the customer asked for no further help and the check passed, does.
The check runs when the conversation ends: two hours after the first message on messaging by default, extendable to 72 hours, 72 hours after the first email, and at hangup on voice. When the allowance runs out, the default "Allow overage" setting keeps the AI agent answering at the pay-as-you-go rate, billed monthly; "Don't allow overage" pauses it and routes requests to people.
Zendesk's help center also describes a dollar-denominated allowance for accounts on its "resolution allowance pricing model": $2 per agent seat a month on Suite Team and Support plans, $5 on Suite Growth and Professional and $10 on Enterprise, at most $5,000 a year, with no carry-over. Ask which applies; the Zendesk AI agent decision guide explains the mechanics.
Zendesk merged its Essential and Advanced AI agents in May and June 2026, so procedures and API calls are in every plan, and will migrate remaining Essential agents in January 2027 and legacy bots from February 2027, warning that resolution counts may change. Copilot costs $50 per agent a month on annual billing, from Professional up, and is bought for every agent seat; Professional plans include 5 free Copilot uses per agent a month, capped at 500.
Is Zoho Desk's Answer Bot included in the plan?
Yes: Zoho Desk includes the Answer Bot in the edition price from Standard, $14 per user a month on annual billing as of October 2026, but Zoho's edition comparison lists the Answer Bot inside its ASAP website widget on Enterprise only, at $40 a user. Zoho publishes no per-answer charge, so the cost of its AI is the edition you need.
Editions cost $7 for Express (up to 5 users), $14 for Standard, $23 for Professional and $40 for Enterprise per user a month on annual billing, or $9, $20, $35 and $50 monthly, in the US dollar data the pricing page loads. A Free edition covers three users.
Zia is Zoho's built-in AI, which in Zoho Desk covers the Answer Bot, predictions, sentiment and generative features. The Zoho Desk edition comparison spreads them across the tiers:
- Standard adds the Answer bot, "an AI-powered reply assistant that provides relevant responses to agents and customers" from your knowledge base articles, plus sentiment analysis and automatic ticket tags.
- Professional adds Zia AI with field predictions, and Zoho's native generative models.
- Enterprise adds the Answer bot in ASAP, "for customers to interact with", chatbots on messaging channels, live chat powered by Zoho SalesIQ, Guided Conversations and pre-built Zoho Desk AI agents.
Generative features such as summaries are bring-your-own-key on Express and Standard: you connect an OpenAI key and OpenAI bills you. Zia Agents, Zoho's agent builder, includes "up to 30 million tokens/month" on Zoho's own models in every edition, and Zoho's Zia Agents platform details price usage past that at $1.00 per million tokens, or $3.00 on its pro-tier model, which has a 20 million allowance. Credits are prepaid and roll over; the free allowance resets on the first of each month.
Third-party pages disagree on Zoho's tier partly because Zoho sells two Answer Bots: its help center says "Zoho Desk Answer Bot and SalesIQ Answer Bot are distinct features", and the SalesIQ one sits on SalesIQ's Enterprise plan at $25 per operator a month, or $20 annually. Within Zoho Desk, the Standard and ASAP rows explain the rest. The bot reads only knowledge base articles published for all users.
What does each add-on cost a five-agent team? Three scenarios
For five agents and 3,000 website chats a month, the AI line comes to $1,470 on Freshdesk Omni, $2,212.50 to $2,950 on Zendesk Suite Team when half the chats end in verified resolutions, and nothing on Zoho Desk Enterprise, whose cost sits in the $40 seat. The assumptions:
- Five people answer customers, on seats billed annually at list price, before tax.
- Every chat reaches the AI first on a website widget, so each plan is the cheapest that puts the vendor's AI there: Freshdesk Omni Growth, Zendesk Suite Team (or Professional) and Zoho Desk Enterprise.
- One chat is one Freddy session, and the one-time 500 are spent.
- Half the chats end in a Zendesk verified resolution, after 25 included on Suite Team or 50 on Suite Professional.
- Zia Agents stay inside the 30 million free tokens.
| Setup for five agents | Seats a month | AI line, 1,000 chats | AI line, 3,000 chats | AI line, 10,000 chats |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Freshdesk Omni Growth, Freddy AI Agent | $145 | $490 | $1,470 | $4,900 |
| Zendesk Suite Team, committed rate | $275 | $712.50 | $2,212.50 | $7,462.50 |
| Zendesk Suite Team, pay-as-you-go | $275 | $950 | $2,950 | $9,950 |
| Zendesk Suite Professional, committed rate | $575 | $675 | $2,175 | $7,425 |
| Zoho Desk Enterprise, Answer Bot in ASAP | $200 | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| PepoChat in front of your helpdesk, five members | Your helpdesk plan | $79 | $119 | $249 |
Prices from each vendor's pricing page, checked 22 October 2026. Copilot add-ons and tax are not included.
The arithmetic at 3,000 chats: Freshdesk is 3,000 sessions ÷ 100 = 30 packs × $49 = $1,470. Zendesk Suite Team is 1,500 verified − 25 included = 1,475 × $1.50 = $2,212.50, or × $2.00 = $2,950. Zoho Desk Enterprise is 5 × $40 = $200, all of it seats. With seats added, the month costs:
| Monthly total, seats included | 1,000 chats | 3,000 chats | 10,000 chats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freshdesk Omni Growth | $635 | $1,615 | $5,045 |
| Zendesk Suite Team | $987.50 to $1,225 | $2,487.50 to $3,225 | $7,737.50 to $10,225 |
| Zendesk Suite Professional, committed | $1,250 | $2,750 | $8,000 |
| Zoho Desk Enterprise | $200 | $200 | $200 |
| PepoChat plus five $19 email-only helpdesk seats | $174 | $214 | $344 |
Prices from each vendor's pricing page and PepoChat's pricing page, checked 22 October 2026.
The verified rate moves only Zendesk's bill. At 30% verified, Suite Team's AI line at 3,000 chats falls to 875 × $1.50 = $1,312.50; at 70% it rises to 2,075 × $1.50 = $3,112.50. Freshdesk's $1,470 stays put, because it bills attempts. Ignoring seats and allowances, Zendesk's committed rate beats a $0.49 session only while fewer than about one chat in three ends verified ($0.49 ÷ $1.50 = 33%), and pay-as-you-go only below one in four.
Copilot is a second line. For five agents, Freddy AI Copilot adds $145 a month on top of Omni Pro seats at $395; Zendesk Copilot adds $250 on Suite Professional's $575 of seats. Zoho Desk has no per-agent AI price: Professional, at $115 for five users, adds Zia's native generative features.

What do built-in AI add-ons do that a separate AI agent cannot?
Built-in AI add-ons work inside the ticket, which a separate agent cannot: Freddy AI Copilot, Zendesk Copilot and Zia draft and summarise replies, read sentiment and predict ticket fields for the people answering. Freshworks adds live translation and similar-ticket suggestions, Zendesk merge suggestions and triage, and Zoho automatic tags.
The built-in AI agent also reads the helpdesk's own knowledge base and channels without integration work: Zendesk's runs on messaging, email and voice from one configuration. If most of your volume is email or WhatsApp, that is hard to replace.
A separate AI agent in front of the helpdesk does the reverse. It answers on your website before any ticket exists, learns from your site pages, PDFs, Notion or Google Drive, can check an order or a subscription in other systems, and sends one predictable bill. It cannot draft inside the ticket or answer channels it is not installed on.

How does an AI agent in front of the helpdesk work?
An AI agent in front of the helpdesk answers website visitors first and files a ticket only when a person has to act, so the questions it answers never become Freddy sessions, Zendesk resolutions or tickets. The helpdesk stays the system of record.
PepoChat is an AI support agent that answers from your own knowledge base and makes a human handoff to its team inbox when it finds nothing relevant or the visitor asks for a person. Its prebuilt actions create a ticket and check a ticket's status by number in Zendesk through an OAuth card, in Freshdesk with an agent's API key, and in Zoho Desk with one-click OAuth. The ticket carries an AI-written summary and the email the visitor typed, not the transcript; the guide to letting a chatbot create tickets covers the fields to add, and the Zoho Desk integration docs show the setup.
The unit is an AI reply, counted each time the agent answers a visitor's message. As of October 2026, the PepoChat pricing page lists every feature on the free plan with 200 replies a month, Starter at $49 for 2,000 replies and 3 members, and Growth at $149 for 10,000 replies and 10 members, with extra replies at $10 per 1,000 and extra members at $15. In PepoChat's code, chats in the dashboard's Test the agent drawer never count, unlike Freddy previews, and a conversation stops counting once it is escalated to people.
At two replies per chat, the scenarios come to $79 a month at 1,000 chats (Starter plus two extra members), $119 at 3,000 (4,000 overage replies add $40) and $249 at 10,000 (Growth plus 10,000 overage replies). With the website chat on PepoChat, the helpdesk only carries email and tickets, so five $19 Freshdesk Growth or Zendesk Support Team seats would do: $214 for the 3,000-chat month. Teams that run WhatsApp or phone through the helpdesk keep their plan.
The limits are real. PepoChat is not a helpdesk: no email ticketing, phone, WhatsApp or SLAs, and the widget runs only on websites. It publishes no deflection statistics and no SOC 2 or ISO certification. Ticket creation runs at least once, so a duplicate ticket can rarely appear, and two chat widgets on one page show visitors two bubbles.
Six questions to ask your account rep before you sign
- Freshworks: which session terms are we on? New customers get $49 packs and a one-time 500; accounts that signed up earlier keep their existing provisions, which can include 2,000 to 5,000 sessions a month.
- Freshworks: do our packs renew automatically? Per the session FAQ they do, and unused sessions expire, so set the pack count before each renewal.
- Zendesk: are we on the per-agent resolution allowance or the dollar allowance? The pricing page and help center describe different models.
- Zendesk: what share of last month's AI conversations were verified, contained or assisted? The verified share is what you pay for.
- Zoho: which edition puts the bot in our widget and messaging channels, and whose model runs it? Standard's Answer Bot is not the Enterprise widget bot.
- All three: what do customers see when the AI allowance runs out? A paused bot, a handover to people and a widget that stops are three different experiences.
What to do next
- Write down agents, monthly chats by channel and the share you expect the AI to resolve, then rerun the tables above.
- For seats, channels and reporting beyond the AI line, read the Freshdesk vs Zendesk comparison.
- To test an agent in front of your helpdesk, create a free PepoChat workspace, connect Zendesk, Freshdesk or Zoho Desk under Integrations, and file one test ticket to your own address.
Frequently asked questions
- How much does Freshdesk Freddy AI cost?
- As of October 2026, Freddy AI Agent costs $49 per pack of 100 sessions, or $0.49 a session, after a one-time 500 free sessions on the Growth, Pro and Enterprise plans. Freddy AI Copilot costs $29 per agent a month on annual billing, on Pro and Enterprise only. The website chat agent needs Freshdesk Omni, from $29 an agent a month.
- What is a Freddy AI session?
- A Freddy AI session is all of one person's interactions with the AI agent inside a time window: 24 hours from the start of a chat, or 72 hours from the customer's first email. It is counted whether or not the AI solved anything, and Freshworks' session FAQ says previews you run while building an agent consume sessions too.
- How much does Zendesk charge per automated resolution?
- As of October 2026, Zendesk charges $1.50 per automated resolution on a committed volume or $2.00 pay-as-you-go, after 5 included resolutions per agent a month on Support Team and Suite Team and 10 on Suite Professional. Only verified resolutions count; conversations a person finishes, or that fail Zendesk's AI check, are not billed.
- Is Zoho Desk's Answer Bot included in the plan?
- Yes, from the Standard edition at $14 per user a month on annual billing, with no per-answer charge published. Zoho's edition table lists the Answer Bot inside its ASAP website widget, chatbots on messaging channels and SalesIQ live chat on Enterprise only, at $40 a user. SalesIQ's own Answer Bot is a separate product on SalesIQ's Enterprise plan.
- Which helpdesk AI add-on is cheapest for a small team?
- At October 2026 list prices, Zoho Desk is cheapest once chats grow, because its Answer Bot is not metered: five Enterprise users cost $200 a month at any volume. Freshdesk adds $0.49 per chat session and Zendesk $1.50 to $2.00 per verified resolution, so their AI lines grow with traffic. A flat-priced agent in front of an email-only helpdesk plan can cost less again.
- Can I use a different AI agent with my helpdesk?
- Yes. Any AI agent that can call the helpdesk's ticket API can sit in front of it, answering website visitors and filing tickets only when a person must act. PepoChat, for example, creates tickets and checks their status in Zendesk, Freshdesk and Zoho Desk on every plan, so the chats it answers never become sessions or resolutions in the helpdesk.
