Best AI Customer Support Software in 2026: 12 Tools Compared
Intercom Fin, Zendesk, Salesforce Agentforce, Freshdesk, HubSpot, Tidio, PepoChat and 5 more compared by team size, AI billing unit and November 2026 prices.

Short answer
As of November 2026, the best AI customer support software depends on team size. Intercom Fin is the strongest AI agent for chat-first teams, at $0.99 per outcome plus seats from $29. Zendesk, Salesforce Agentforce and Ada suit enterprise volume. Freshdesk with Freddy is the value pick for growing teams, from $19 an agent. PepoChat suits small teams that want a website AI agent and team inbox with every feature on the free plan, then $39 a month.
AI customer support software is a helpdesk, live chat tool or standalone widget with an AI agent that answers customers from your own content and passes the hard cases to a person. Nearly every support vendor sells one in 2026; the differences are how the AI is billed, where the handoff lands and how much software comes with it.
This guide is for whoever picks the support stack, from a solo founder to an enterprise operations team. Each tool gets a "best for" line, a team size, its published price and billing unit, and honest limits.
PepoChat is our product; we include it where it fits and say where other tools are the better choice. Facts below were checked on vendor pages on 4 November 2026.

How we chose and compared these tools
Five criteria decide whether AI support works for a team of a given size.
- Grounded answers. The AI should answer from your help center, website and files, and say when the answer is not there.
- Human handoff. Human handoff is the moment the AI stops and a person takes over the same conversation with the transcript intact. Some tools hand off into their own inbox, others into your helpdesk.
- How the AI is billed. Resolution-based pricing is a model in which you pay each time the AI closes a conversation without a person, so the bill rises as the AI improves. The alternatives are sessions, conversations, credits and replies.
- Channels and controls. Email, WhatsApp, phone, SLAs, routing and compliance matter more as a team grows.
- Fit by team size. Seat minimums and onboarding fees can turn a purchase into a project.
We read each vendor's pricing page, help center and integration docs on 4 November 2026 and compared them on these criteria. We did not run paid trials, so nothing below benchmarks answer quality; our vendor evaluation checklist has the questions to ask in a trial.
1. Intercom Fin: best AI agent for chat-first support teams
Intercom Fin is the AI agent inside Intercom's customer service suite, and it is the best pick for chat-first support teams of three or more that want the AI and their people working in one inbox.
Pricing: Intercom's pricing page lists seats at $29 (Essential), $85 (Advanced) and $132 (Expert) a month on annual billing, or $39, $99 and $139 monthly, with new customers shown $19 for Essential. Fin costs $0.99 per outcome, once per conversation: the customer confirms the answer worked, stops asking after Fin responds, or Fin completes a workflow. A plain handoff to a person is not charged. The trial is 14 days, with no free plan.
Strengths: Live chat, support email and in-app chats are unlimited on every plan, and Fin can also run on Salesforce, HubSpot, Freshworks and other helpdesks without Intercom seats, from 50 outcomes a month.
Limits: The AI line grows with success, a customer who goes quiet for 24 hours after Fin's answer counts as an outcome, and lead qualifications cost $9.99 each.
Verdict: The benchmark for chat-heavy teams if a per-outcome bill fits; our Fin pricing breakdown works the numbers.
2. Zendesk: best for omnichannel ticketing at scale
Zendesk is a helpdesk suite with AI agents included in every plan, and it is the best choice for teams of ten or more agents that need ticketing, routing, SLAs and reporting across email, chat, messaging and phone.
Pricing: The Zendesk pricing page lists Support Team at $19 an agent a month on annual billing ($25 monthly), Suite Team at $55 ($69) and Suite Professional at $115 ($149). Plans include 5 automated resolutions per agent a month (10 on Professional), then $1.50 each on a commitment or $2.00 pay-as-you-go. The trial is 14 days.
Strengths: The reference ticketing, routing and reporting for large teams, with the AI agent inside the plan. Escalated conversations are not billed, and a startup program covers up to 50 agents.
Limits: $2.00 pay-as-you-go is the highest per-resolution price here, and live chat starts on Suite Team. Adopting Zendesk is a migration, not an install.
Verdict: Buy it for the helpdesk and take the AI with it; our helpdesk AI add-on comparison prices it for five agents.
3. Salesforce Agentforce: best for enterprises already on Salesforce
Salesforce Agentforce is Salesforce's AI agent platform, and it is the best fit for enterprises whose service team already works cases in Service Cloud and wants AI agents acting on the same CRM data.
Pricing: Service Cloud editions run from $25 a user a month (Starter Suite) to $550 (Max), and Salesforce says Agentforce now comes in every edition with limited credits. The Agentforce pricing page meters customer-facing agents at $2 per conversation, or Flex Credits at $500 per 100,000, where an action uses 20 credits ($0.10). The builder tools are free in Salesforce Foundations, and Service Cloud has a 30-day trial.
Strengths: The agent reads and updates your Salesforce records, so it can act on a case or an order the way a human agent would.
Limits: Editions above Pro Suite are annual contracts from $195 a user, conversations and credits cannot be mixed in one org, and you need a Salesforce admin to build and govern agents.
Verdict: The obvious choice when Salesforce is your system of record.
4. Ada: best for enterprise automation across chat, email and voice
Ada is an enterprise AI agent platform that runs one agent across chat, email, voice and messaging apps, and it is best for large companies automating high volume on top of the contact-centre software they already run.
Pricing: Not published; the pricing page is a demo request. Ada's platform FAQ describes conversation-based pricing, "you pay for every conversation your AI agent has with end users", with resolution-based pricing offered to some enterprises.
Strengths: Answers in 60 languages, API, code and MCP tools for actions, live handoff to platforms such as Zendesk, Salesforce, Genesys and Amazon Connect, and a compliance list that includes SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR and PCI DSS.
Limits: No public price to model before a sales process, and no inbox of its own: your people need a helpdesk or contact centre behind it.
Verdict: Shortlist Ada when automation is a funded program; skip it below enterprise scale.
5. HubSpot Service Hub with Breeze: best for teams whose CRM is HubSpot
HubSpot Service Hub is HubSpot's helpdesk, and its customer agent (part of Breeze) is the best fit for teams whose sales and marketing already run on HubSpot, because it answers with CRM context and hands off in the same inbox.
Pricing: The cheapest route to the agent is Smart CRM Professional at $45 a seat a month on annual billing ($50 monthly); Service Hub Professional is $90 ($100) plus a $1,500 one-time onboarding fee. Both include 3,000 HubSpot Credits a month, and HubSpot's credits page prices the agent at 50 credits per resolution, with credits at $10 per 1,000, so a resolution costs $0.50.
Strengths: One customer record across marketing, sales and service, and the lowest per-resolution price among the suites.
Limits: The included credits cover 60 resolutions, and when they run out without a top-up the agent stops taking new conversations. A chat a teammate picks up by assignment can still bill as resolved.
Verdict: The lowest-friction choice if HubSpot is already your CRM.

6. Freshdesk with Freddy: best value helpdesk for growing teams
Freshdesk is Freshworks' helpdesk with the Freddy AI Agent on every paid plan, and it is the best value for growing teams of 3 to 20 agents that want ticketing and an AI allowance at a low seat price.
Pricing: Freshdesk costs $19, $55 or $89 an agent a month on annual billing. The website chat agent needs Freshdesk Omni: $29, $79 or $119 annual ($35, $95 or $143 monthly) on the Omni pricing page. The first 500 Freddy AI Agent sessions are free once per account, then $49 per 100. A chat session is every exchange with a visitor within 24 hours. The trial is 14 days.
Strengths: Low seat prices, and Omni adds voice from $15 an agent and lets you bring your own channels and phone numbers.
Limits: The 500 sessions are a one-time grant, packs expire with the billing cycle, and when sessions run out the AI stops and chats go to people.
Verdict: The best price-to-capability helpdesk for a team outgrowing a shared inbox.
7. Zoho Desk: lowest seat price, best for teams already on Zoho
Zoho Desk is Zoho's helpdesk, and it is best for cost-conscious growing teams, especially those already on Zoho apps, that want the cheapest published seat and no per-resolution AI fee.
Pricing: Zoho Desk is free for 3 users with email ticketing and no AI. Express is $7 an agent a month on annual billing ($9 monthly), Standard $14 ($20), Professional $23 ($35) and Enterprise $40 ($50), with a 15-day trial. Express lists AI Agents built on your own OpenAI key or Zoho's model, with "up to 30M free tokens/month"; Standard adds Answer Bot, which replies from your knowledge base articles, and Professional adds Zia.
Strengths: WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger from Standard, and telephony on Professional.
Limits: Standard's web chat is for logged-in customers, with full live chat (Zoho SalesIQ) listed on Enterprise, and your own AI key means a second bill.
Verdict: The cheapest serious helpdesk seat, best inside the Zoho suite.
8. Gorgias: best for Shopify stores with several channels
Gorgias is a helpdesk built for Shopify stores, and it is best for ecommerce teams of 2 to 30 agents that want one AI agent across email, chat, SMS and social that can act on orders.
Pricing: Gorgias bills by ticket, not seat: Starter $10 a month for 50 tickets, Basic $60 ($50 annual) for 300, Pro $360 ($300) for 2,000 and Advanced $900 ($750) for 5,000. AI Agent adds a bundle of automated interactions at $1.00 each monthly or $0.90 annual (30 on Starter and Basic, 190 on Pro, 530 on Advanced), then $1.50 each. An automated interaction is a request "fully resolved without a human agent", and each also counts as a ticket. The trial is 7 days.
Strengths: The AI can cancel, edit and refund orders, and Basic and above include 500 seats.
Limits: Two meters stack on every AI resolution, and the AI Agent requires a connected Shopify store.
Verdict: The default helpdesk for a Shopify brand selling on several channels.
9. Help Scout: best for email-first small and growing teams
Help Scout is a shared inbox and help center with an AI agent billed per resolution, and it is best for email-first teams of 1 to 25 that want a free plan and AI spending they can cap.
Pricing: The Help Scout pricing page lists Free for up to 5 users and 100 contacts a month, Standard at $25 a user a month on annual billing ($30 monthly), Plus at $45 and Pro at $75 with a 10-user minimum. Its AI agent, Scout, is sold as the Envoy add-on at $0.75 per resolution, "a single conversation that is resolved by AI Answers without human assistance", with three months of unlimited resolutions free for new accounts.
Strengths: A real free plan and a monthly cap that switches Scout off when reached.
Limits: The AI cannot look up orders or payments yet, and the free plan has no live chat and stops replies at 100 contacts a month.
Verdict: The calmest choice for a team whose support is mostly email.
10. Tidio: best for small teams that want live chat first, AI second
Tidio is a live chat and helpdesk tool with the Lyro AI agent sold as a separate quota, and it is best for small teams and stores that want people answering chat with AI covering the routine questions.
Pricing: The Tidio pricing page shows Free with 50 human-answered conversations a month, Starter at $24.17 a month and Growth from $49.17 on annual billing. Lyro is $39 a month for 50 conversations ($32.50 annual), rising to $700 for 1,000. A Lyro conversation is any interaction with at least one AI reply, and the first 50 are free once.
Strengths: The free plan includes 10 seats and puts live chat, email, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp in one inbox, and Lyro can be bought on its own.
Limits: Human and Lyro conversations are two quotas, Lyro counts a conversation once it replies, resolved or not, and its order-status and booking actions are effectively a Plus feature.
Verdict: A good first live chat; our Lyro vs Fin vs Zendesk comparison sets its billing rule beside the suites.
11. PepoChat: best for small teams that want a website AI agent and team inbox on a free plan
PepoChat is a standalone AI support agent for websites with a built-in team inbox, and it is best for small teams of 1 to 10 people that want every feature on the free plan and a flat monthly price after that.
Pricing: Free is $0 for 200 AI replies a month, 5 knowledge sources and 1 member. Starter is $39 a month or $390 a year for 2,000 replies, unlimited sources and 3 members; Growth is $149 a month or $1,490 a year for 10,000 replies, 10 members and no PepoChat branding. Extra replies cost $10 per 1,000 and extra seats $15 a month. Team replies typed in the inbox do not count, and when Free reaches 200 replies, new conversations go to the team inbox with a friendly message.
Strengths: Every feature is on every plan except new-lead emails to the team: a team inbox with assignment, tags, macros and internal notes, handoff alerts by email, 22 prebuilt actions for Stripe, Shopify, WooCommerce, Zendesk, HubSpot, Salesforce and others, and booking through PepoSmart.
Limits: The agent runs in the website widget today, with WhatsApp and Messenger in limited rollout and no email channel or phone number. Voice uses your own Vapi account and does not share the chat knowledge base, and booking works only through PepoSmart, not Calendly or Google Calendar. There are no compliance certifications and no native mobile app, and PepoChat is a young product with few public reviews.
Verdict: The cheapest full-featured way for a small team to put an AI agent and a human inbox on its website.
12. Chatbase: best for building one AI agent across many channels
Chatbase is an AI agent builder that trains one agent on your site, files and docs and deploys it to the web, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Slack, email and phone, and it is best for small teams that want model choice and many channels.
Pricing: The Chatbase pricing page lists Hobby at $40 a month ($32 annual) for 700 message credits and 2 members, Basic at $150 ($120) for 4,000 credits, 3 members and the Helpdesk inbox, and Business at $500 ($400) for 15,000. A reply costs 1 to 5 credits by model, and an action can add a second request. Extra credits are $40 per 1,000. Each plan has a 7-day trial; no free plan is listed.
Strengths: Sixteen deployment channels, models from several AI providers, Shopify order and returns actions, and Calendly and Cal.com booking.
Limits: The inbox, voice, Stripe actions and helpdesk integrations start on Basic at $150, and when credits run out the agent shows as unavailable until you top up.
Verdict: The most flexible builder for a small team that needs messaging apps or phone now.

What do 1,000 AI-handled conversations a month cost?
On published November 2026 prices, 1,000 AI-handled conversations a month cost from $39 to more than $2,000 among the tools that publish an AI price, and the billing unit explains most of the gap.
An AI-handled conversation here is one the AI answers and closes without a person, so it counts as one resolution, outcome, session or Lyro conversation, and it takes two AI replies. Totals use one seat on the cheapest plan with the AI, monthly list prices and no discounts. They are estimates from list prices, not quotes.
| Tool | Seats or plan needed | AI cost for 1,000 | Monthly total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intercom Fin | 1 Essential seat, $39 monthly | 1,000 outcomes at $0.99 = $990 | About $1,029 |
| Zendesk | 1 Suite Team agent, $69 monthly | 995 resolutions at $2.00 = $1,990 | About $2,059 |
| Salesforce Agentforce | Service Cloud licences | 1,000 conversations at $2 = $2,000 | $2,000 plus licences |
| Ada | Not published | Not published | Not published |
| HubSpot (Breeze) | 1 Smart CRM Professional seat, $50 monthly | 47,000 credits past the 3,000 included = $470 | About $520 |
| Freshdesk Omni | 1 Growth agent, $35 monthly | 10 packs of 100 sessions = $490 | About $525 |
| Zoho Desk | 1 Express agent, $9 monthly | No per-use fee published; up to 30M free tokens a month, or your own AI key billed by your provider | From $9, plus provider costs if you bring a key |
| Gorgias | Pro, $360 for 2,000 tickets | 1,000 at $1.00 if your bundle covers them; Pro's standard 190 plus 810 at $1.50 | About $1,360 to $1,765 |
| Help Scout | 1 Standard user, $30 monthly | 1,000 resolutions at $0.75 = $750 | About $780 |
| Tidio | None: Lyro is sold on its own | 1,000-conversation Lyro quota | $700 |
| PepoChat | Starter, $39 | 2,000 replies, inside the allowance | $39 |
| Chatbase | Basic, $150 (Hobby lacks the inbox) | 2,000 credits at 1 credit a reply | $150 |
Prices from each vendor's own pages, checked 4 November 2026.
Per-resolution tools (Intercom, Zendesk, HubSpot, Help Scout, Gorgias) charge for success, so their AI line halves if the AI closes half as many and doubles with volume. Session and quota tools (Freshdesk, Tidio) charge whether or not the AI resolves anything. Flat and credit plans (PepoChat, Chatbase) barely move until you outgrow the allowance, though they count replies: at three replies a conversation, PepoChat's 3,000 replies cost $49 on Starter.
Price your real team, not one seat, and add one-time items such as Service Hub's onboarding fee. Our AI customer support pricing index runs 30 tools at 500, 2,000 and 10,000 conversations.
Which AI customer support software should you choose?
Choose by team size first, then by where your customers write to you: a tool built for your size and main channel beats a stronger tool built for someone else.
If you already pay for a helpdesk, start with the AI agent that comes with it, since it reads your help center and hands off into the inbox your team watches. Our guide to AI chatbots for small business support covers the standalone-versus-suite decision for teams under 50.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the best AI customer support software for a small business?
- It depends on where customers reach you. As of November 2026, PepoChat suits a small team whose support starts on its website: every feature, including the team inbox and human handoff, is on the free plan, then $39 a month. Help Scout suits email-first teams, Tidio suits teams that want live chat apps first, and Chatbase suits teams that need WhatsApp or phone now.
- Which AI customer service software is cheapest?
- For 1,000 AI-handled conversations a month, the flat plans are cheapest on November 2026 list prices: PepoChat at $39 on Starter and Chatbase at $150 on Basic. Zoho Desk has the cheapest helpdesk seat at $7 a month billed yearly and publishes no per-use AI fee. Per-resolution suites cost about $520 to $2,059 at the same volume.
- Is Intercom Fin worth it?
- Intercom Fin is worth it for chat-first teams that want a strong AI agent and their people in one inbox, and that can budget $0.99 per outcome on top of seats from $29 a month billed yearly. At 1,000 outcomes a month the AI line alone is $990. A small team with a tight budget usually gets better value from a flat-priced tool.
- Can AI fully replace a customer support team?
- No. An AI agent can answer the repeat questions your content already covers and take simple actions, but refunds, exceptions, angry customers and anything your documents do not cover still need a person. Every tool in this comparison includes a human handoff for that reason. Plan for the AI to take the routine volume and your team to take the judgement calls.
- What is resolution-based pricing for AI customer support?
- Resolution-based pricing charges you each time the AI closes a conversation without a person. As of November 2026, Intercom charges $0.99 per Fin outcome, Zendesk $1.50 to $2.00 per automated resolution, Help Scout $0.75 and HubSpot 50 credits, or $0.50. The bill rises as the AI improves, so check each vendor's definition of a resolution before you sign.
- Do I need a helpdesk and an AI chatbot, or just one?
- A small team whose questions arrive on its website usually needs only one tool: an AI support agent with a built-in team inbox, such as PepoChat or Chatbase on Basic. A team handling email, phone and social queues needs a helpdesk, and should start with the AI agent that comes with it, such as Zendesk, Freshdesk or Intercom.
