Conversational marketing platform
The best Drift alternative is PepoChat
Drift defined conversational marketing for B2B websites, but Salesloft is retiring it on January 31, 2027. PepoChat is the alternative when what you need from the widget is answers, lead capture, booking and a human handoff, with every feature on the free plan.

Three reasons teams pick PepoChat over Drift
What changes when you switch, and why it sticks.
A replacement before January 2027
Salesloft's Sunset FAQ says Drift access ends on January 31, 2027 or at your contract end, whichever comes first, and the widget stops working that day. PepoChat installs with one script tag, needs no credit card, and its free plan runs while you rebuild the knowledge base and test the agent.
Answers, handoff and lead capture included
Drift's Bionic Chatbots answer from a Content Library until they detect intent, then follow a Playbook to a rep. PepoChat answers from your knowledge base, asks for the visitor's email when it needs a follow-up, and escalates to a built-in team inbox when it finds nothing relevant or the visitor asks for a person.
Meeting booking from the chat
Drift booked meetings through a calendar drop in a Playbook, with round-robin distribution on Premium and above. PepoChat books against a PepoSmart calendar: real slots in the visitor's timezone, re-validated at booking, round-robin host assignment and a Google Meet, Zoom or Teams link, on the free plan.
Short answer
Short answer
Short answer: PepoChat is the best Drift alternative for teams whose website chat is mostly support, lead capture and meeting booking. Drift is being retired: Salesloft says access ends on January 31, 2027, the widget stops working that day, and existing customers are being referred to 1mind. PepoChat replaces the answering, lead capture, booking and handoff to a person, with every feature on the free plan. If what you valued was sales playbooks, CQL lead scoring and routing to named reps, 1mind or a sales platform is the better successor, because PepoChat is support-first.
People look for a Drift alternative in 2026 for three reasons. The first is the sunset: Salesloft's Drift Sunset FAQ says Drift will be retired on January 31, 2027, the chat widget, Drift Email and custom API integrations stop working that day, and unexported data is held offline until April 30, 2027 and deleted on May 1, 2027. The second is the buying process: Drift never published prices, and drift.com now redirects to a Salesloft page whose only call to action is Talk to Sales. The third is fit: Drift was built to create pipeline, and many teams only used it as support chat with occasional lead capture.
This page is a migration guide: what Drift did, what PepoChat does and does not replace, the cost at two volumes and the steps to switch before the deadline. If you are also weighing the suites, the HubSpot Breeze alternative covers HubSpot's chat and customer agent, the Intercom alternative covers Fin, and the Zoho SalesIQ alternative covers visitor tracking at a published per-operator price.
About Drift
drift.com · Conversational marketing platform
Best for: Existing Drift customers running B2B chat playbooks, CQL scoring and meeting booking until the product is retired on January 31, 2027.
Drift was the conversational marketing platform that turned the chat window on a B2B website into a sales channel. Playbooks greeted visitors by segment, Bionic Chatbots answered from a Content Library of website pages, sitemaps, PDFs and DOCX files, an AI Lead Qualification node assigned Conversation Qualified Lead (CQL) scores, routing connected a qualified visitor to the right team, and a calendar drop in the chat booked the meeting. Salesloft acquired Drift in 2024; as of October 2026, drift.com redirects to a Salesloft page that says the company has transitioned from Drift to 1mind.
Drift never published a price list. Plans were quoted by sales on annual contracts. Today there is nothing to buy: Salesloft's March 2026 partnership announcement with 1mind describes a gradual sunset of Drift, and the Drift Sunset FAQ sets the retirement date at January 31, 2027, with service continuing until then or until your contract ends. Where Drift shone was pipeline: a marketing team could target accounts with specific playbooks, score conversations, hand hot visitors to a named rep in real time and book the meeting in the chat, with outcomes reported into Salesforce.
What Drift does well
- Playbooks that greet visitors by segment and route qualified ones to a rep
- Bionic Chatbots answer from a Content Library of pages, sitemaps and files
- AI Lead Qualification assigns CQL scores and disqualifies on required questions
- Meeting booking from the chat, with round-robin distribution on Premium plans
- Salesforce integration with meeting reports and outcome mapping
- Conversational Guardrails keep the automated chat on brand
Where Drift falls short
- Being retired: access ends January 31, 2027 or at contract end, whichever comes first
- The chat widget, Drift Email and custom API integrations stop on the sunset date
- Data goes offline after retirement and is deleted on May 1, 2027 unless exported
- No published prices; sold by quote on annual contracts and no longer offered
- The named successor, 1mind, is a separate vendor, so a migration is required either way
About PepoChat
pepochat.com · AI support agent with a team inbox
PepoChat is an AI support agent for websites with a team inbox built in. You add a crawl of your site (up to 200 pages), a sitemap or a list of links, upload PDFs, DOCX and other files, connect Notion or Google Drive, or type Q&A pairs in. The agent searches that private knowledge base on every reply, streams the answer, and escalates to the team inbox when it finds nothing relevant or the visitor asks for a person. Optional lead capture asks for an email, plus name, phone and company if you want them, before the first message, when the agent needs a follow-up, or right before a handoff, and every captured contact lands on a Contacts page.
Pricing is published and flat. Every feature is on every plan, with two exceptions: new-lead emails to the team are on Starter and Growth, and the PepoChat badge comes off on Growth. Free covers 200 AI replies and 5 knowledge sources a month with one member. Starter is $49 a month for 2,000 replies, unlimited sources and 3 members; Growth is $149 for 10,000 replies and 10 members. Replies past a paid allowance cost $10 per 1,000, extra seats $15 a month, and yearly billing is ten months' price. The pricing page has the table, and the integrations page lists the 13 prebuilt actions, including HubSpot and Salesforce.
Why PepoChat does it better
- Every feature on the free plan: 200 AI replies and 5 knowledge sources a month, no credit card and no sales call
- Built-in team inbox with human handoff on every plan, triggered when retrieval finds nothing or the visitor asks
- Lead capture before the first message, when a follow-up is needed or right before a handoff, with a Contacts page
- New-lead notifications by email on paid plans, a Slack card, and a signed webhook for Zapier, Make or n8n
- Appointment booking against a PepoSmart calendar with real slots, round-robin hosts and meeting links
- HubSpot and Salesforce actions find contacts and create tickets or cases, plus 11 more integrations
Things to keep in mind
- Support-first: no account-based playbooks, no lead scoring, no intent data and no sales-engagement sequences
- Web widget and hosted chat page only, so no email channel and no WhatsApp, Messenger or Slack; booking needs a PepoSmart calendar
- No published SOC 2 or ISO certification, no published deflection statistics, and a newer, smaller product than Drift was

Who should switch from Drift to PepoChat
The first group is every Drift customer whose contract ends on or before January 31, 2027, because Salesloft's Drift Sunset FAQ says access ends on the earlier of your contract date and the retirement date, and the widget stops working after the sunset. The second group is teams who used Drift mainly as support chat: the Bionic Chatbot answered from the Content Library, a Playbook offered a meeting to anyone asking for a demo, and a rep picked up when the bot ran out. That is the workflow PepoChat covers, on the free plan.
The third group is anyone who was never comfortable buying on quote. Drift published no prices, and the Salesloft page that drift.com redirects to offers a Talk to Sales button and nothing else, so a small team could not compare it with a $49 tool without a call. PepoChat's plans are on the pricing page: Free, Starter at $49 and Growth at $149 a month, each with every feature. The fourth group is agencies with several Drift clients to migrate before the same date; a PepoChat workspace per client on the free plan is a cheaper place to land them.
When Drift is still the better choice
Until the sunset, Drift remains the better choice for a sales-led team whose contract runs into 2027. Salesloft's Bionic Chatbots guide describes an AI Lead Qualification node that assigns Conversation Qualified Lead scores, disqualifies visitors who fail required questions and follows the Playbook to the right team. PepoChat has no lead scoring, no playbooks by account or segment and no routing to a named rep; escalations go to one team inbox where any member can pick them up. If your pipeline reporting depends on CQLs flowing into Salesforce, nothing here replaces that, and 1mind is the conversation to have.
Drift's meetings stack is also deeper than a support tool needs. The meetings article describes booking from a rep's Drift profile, from a calendar drop in a Chat Playbook, through the Team Availability bot skill and through the API, with Google and Outlook calendars, group meetings, and on Premium a choice between distributing meetings for fairness (round robin) or for speed (everyone's availability at once). PepoChat books only against a PepoSmart calendar, supports round robin but not a speed mode and has no outcome reports.
Drift vs PepoChat: a support week, side by side
Picture Monday morning with forty conversations from the weekend. In Drift, the Bionic Chatbot answered general questions from the Content Library until it detected a sales or support intent, then followed the Playbook path you built: a calendar for demo requests, a route to the support team for the rest, and a CQL score on each conversation. In PepoChat, the agent answered from the knowledge base, streamed each reply and escalated the ones it could not ground to the team inbox, where they sit marked escalated with the transcript and the visitor's details. Nothing is scored, but nothing is lost.
On Tuesday a customer asks where order 1042 is. Drift had no order lookup. PepoChat's Shopify and WooCommerce actions fetch the payment and fulfilment status and answer in the chat on the free plan, as the order status guide shows. On Wednesday a frustrated customer wants a human: Drift routed to a rep, PepoChat escalates to the inbox and an operator replies under their own name. On Thursday a prospect asks for a demo: Drift dropped the rep's default meeting type into the chat; PepoChat checks the PepoSmart calendar, shows slots in the visitor's local time, books and sends the Meet or Zoom link. On Friday you review: Drift's reporting leaned on Salesforce; PepoChat shows satisfaction votes and auto-labelled topics, with no volume charts.
What it actually costs
Drift's side cannot be worked with public numbers because there never were any: pricing was by quote on annual contracts, and as of October 2026 the product is not sold to new customers. What you can price is the replacement. At roughly 700 conversations a month, with the agent writing two or three replies in each, you are near 2,000 AI replies, which is PepoChat's Starter plan at $49 a month: 2,000 replies, unlimited knowledge sources, 3 members and new-lead emails to the team. At 2,000 conversations a month, call it 6,000 replies, Growth at $149 covers 10,000 replies and 10 members and removes the PepoChat badge.
Two smaller lines matter. Extra seats are $15 a month each, and replies past a paid allowance are billed at $10 per 1,000, so a viral month costs tens of dollars rather than a renegotiation. The badge comes off on Growth rather than as an add-on. The larger cost of leaving Drift is time: exporting data through your account manager before May 1, 2027, rebuilding the Content Library as PepoChat knowledge sources, and reconnecting Salesforce or HubSpot. Our cost guide compares PepoChat with the per-seat and per-resolution suites.
How to move from Drift to PepoChat
Start with the data, because the deadline is hard. Salesloft's FAQ says to request an export through your account manager or support; do that first. Then inventory the Content Library: the website pages, sitemaps, PDFs and DOCX files your Bionic Chatbot answered from. In PepoChat, add the site as a crawl of up to 200 pages, three levels deep, or import the sitemap; a site larger than 200 pages takes two crawl sources, for example /docs and the rest, as the add your website page explains. Upload the same files, and turn the FAQ branches of your Playbooks into Q&A pairs or text snippets, which do not count against the source limit.
Next, rebuild the handoffs. Connect Salesforce or HubSpot from their cards with one-click OAuth, so the agent can find a contact and create a case or ticket; connect Slack for alerts; set lead capture to ask for email, name and company before the first message, when a follow-up is needed or right before a handoff (see the lead generation guide). Connect PepoSmart and choose the meeting types the agent may offer. Set the greeting, suggested questions and brand colour, then try it in the Test the agent drawer. Finally, swap the snippet: Salesloft's FAQ tells you to remove the Drift script, and PepoChat's install guide shows the one tag that replaces it, or the WordPress plugin. Keep Drift running until the inbox looks right.
Where PepoChat's inbox, booking and actions change the outcome
For a B2B software company, the gap Drift leaves is the demo request. PepoChat's agent answers pricing and integration questions from a crawl of your docs and your published Help Center articles, captures the email, and books the demo against your PepoSmart calendar with a host assigned round-robin, the flow in the appointment booking guide. When that prospect returns weeks later, meeting memory lets the agent recall what they discussed, once they verify their email, which Drift never offered.
For an online store or a subscription business that happened to run Drift, the actions are what Drift lacked entirely: Shopify and WooCommerce order status, Stripe plan and renewal lookups, and a Zendesk, Freshdesk or Zoho Desk ticket when a person must follow up. For agencies and clinics, booking plus the hosted chat page gives the agent a full-page URL with no website needed. The use cases page shows these flows.
Do Drift and PepoChat work together?
For the next few months, yes, and that is the sensible way to migrate. You run one chat widget per page, so the usual split is by section of the site: PepoChat on the docs, help centre and pricing pages where the questions are support-shaped, Drift on the campaign landing pages where the Playbooks and CQL scoring still earn their keep until the contract ends. The cost is two knowledge bases to keep current, which is tolerable for a quarter and not for a year.
The connective tissue is the CRM. If PepoChat creates the contact and the case in Salesforce or HubSpot, and Drift keeps writing its meeting and CQL data into the same Salesforce, your team works from one record. After January 31, 2027 the Drift half simply stops, and the Salesloft FAQ is explicit that the widget script should be removed. If the sales features matter, evaluate 1mind in the same window; if Drift Email mattered, Salesloft points to allGood.
The bottom line for founders, support leads and agencies
For a founder, Drift was always an enterprise purchase; PepoChat's free plan covers answers, lead capture, booking and the inbox at $0, and Starter at $49 is the first step after 200 replies a month. For a support lead, ask whether your Drift traffic is support or pipeline: if the Bionic Chatbot mostly deflected tickets and handed off to a person, PepoChat does that with a grounded knowledge base and a team inbox; if it mostly qualified and routed leads, talk to Salesloft about 1mind. For an agency, the sunset is a calendar problem, and a workspace per client on the free plan lets you move them one at a time.
Whichever group you are in, do the export first and the widget swap last. Put PepoChat on part of the site, watch the team inbox and the topics report for a month, and compare it with what Drift was doing there. If HubSpot or Intercom are also on your list, the HubSpot Breeze alternative and Intercom alternative pages price them for the same team.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the best Drift alternative in 2026?
- For a website chat whose job is answering questions, capturing leads, booking meetings and handing off to a person, PepoChat is the best Drift alternative: every feature is on the free plan, and paid plans are flat from $49 a month. For account-based playbooks, CQL scoring and sales routing, Salesloft's recommended successor is 1mind.
- Is Drift shutting down?
- Yes. Salesloft's Drift Sunset FAQ says Drift will be retired on January 31, 2027. Access ends on that date or when your contract ends, whichever comes first, the chat widget and Drift Email stop working that day, and data is held offline until April 30, 2027, then deleted on May 1, 2027 unless you request an export.
- Is there a free Drift alternative?
- Yes. PepoChat's free plan includes 200 AI replies and 5 knowledge sources a month with every feature switched on: the team inbox, lead capture, appointment booking and all 13 integrations, with no credit card. Drift never had a free plan or a published price; it was sold by quote and, as of October 2026, is no longer offered to new customers.
- Can PepoChat book meetings from the chat like Drift did?
- Yes, through a PepoSmart scheduling calendar connected with an API key. You choose which meeting types the agent may offer; it shows real slots in the visitor's local time, PepoSmart re-validates the slot at booking, assigns a host round-robin, creates the meeting link and sends reminders. Drift booked through a calendar drop in a Playbook; Calendly and Cal.com are not supported directly.
- Can I move from Drift to PepoChat before the sunset?
- Yes, and the order matters. Request your Drift data export from your Salesloft account manager first, because unexported data is deleted on May 1, 2027. Then rebuild the knowledge base from the same inputs, a crawl or sitemap of your site plus the files from your Content Library, reconnect Salesforce or HubSpot, set lead capture, test in the dashboard and replace the Drift script tag. Conversation history does not transfer.
- Drift vs PepoChat: which should I choose?
- If your contract runs into 2027 and your sales team lives in Playbooks, CQL scores and rep routing, keep Drift until the end and evaluate 1mind, Salesloft's recommended successor. If your chat mostly answers questions, captures emails and books demos, choose PepoChat: it covers that workflow on the free plan and publishes its prices, which Drift never did.
The verdict
Drift is being retired, and PepoChat replaces the support half of it on a free plan. Drift's strength was pipeline: Playbooks by segment, CQL scoring, routing to named reps and meetings booked in the chat, reported into Salesforce. PepoChat does not do account-based marketing or lead scoring. It does answer from your content, capture the visitor's email, book against a real calendar, hand off to a team inbox and create the HubSpot or Salesforce record, with published prices and no sales call.
Sales-led teams with Drift contracts into 2027 should talk to their Salesloft account team about 1mind and keep Drift until the retirement date. Support-led teams, founders and agencies that need the widget replaced before January 31, 2027 should put PepoChat on the site now, while Drift still runs, and compare the two inboxes for a month. See the pricing page or start free.
